Binu Gurung, 27 runs the first ever Bakery in Kanglung,
Tashigang.
“I started running business from April 2014 as I found there
was no other Bakery around Kanglung”, said Binu Gurung.
She started the Bakery on her own interest and with the past
experiences. She usually opens the shop
around 8.30Am in the morning and closes it by 8Pm in the evening. She also gets
order to bake birthday cakes which is quite profitable than others.
“Profit depends with
the seasons. When College is closed, there is not much profit because most of
the customers are college students”, said Binu Gurung. She also added that, “I
am happy to be a business woman since the amount that I earn is sufficient to
make a living”.
“I have chosen this particular site for the business because
it is near college, unlike places such as Thimphu where there are lots of
competition, it is very hard to make a living”, said Binu Gurung.
Tshering Yangchen, class three
student of Kanglung Primary School said, “I am happy because whenever I feel
like having cake I come here. Before it was a problem as there were no bakery
around but now it has become easy for all of us”.
The ingredients that are needed
for baking cake are brought from Siliguri and they order it when needed. Cakes
such as Strawberry, Cream roll, Pineapple, Cream horn etc…are sold at Nu.35 per
piece.
